BIASTHON: Litam (CD-R 2001 - Private Release)

Ritual music fatta con voci native e spirali elettriche, aliti di strumenti etnici e tessuti sintetici, rumori del mondo occidentale. E' una matrice collaudata già da decine di artisti, anche se Biasthon ci mette un insolito carico tensivo a trasfigurarne gli elementi. "Alasya", in questo senso, è brano perfetto, rotondo e fluido, liquido e lugubre, ricco di elementi magico-rituali. Piace la tendenza irrazionale, la mutazione continua della materia sonora, ora artificiale e rigorosa, ora selvaggia e primitiva. Anche "Maaduse", che con i suoi suoni di strumenti indonesiani e i ritmi 'third world' fa pensare ad una Third Ear Band dei nostri giorni, è in bilico tra Alchimia e Tecnologia. Buoni anche gli altri brani che però si allontanano dagli schemi del genere ritual. Un buon CD per questo trio romano, che meriterebbe un' uscita ufficale.

About sixteen different ethnic instruments plus a whole blend of computer tricks have been used to put this together. There's an insane feeling scattered all over, as if a badly-burned Throbbing Gristle disc got stuck in the player playing the same fragments in malicious loops, and then somebody takes over with oblique electronics and organic wails, that blends quite nice with the rest. Joking apart, this stands in the dark ambient department, drone-driven and dazingly melodic, lowercase almost , with occasional full front climaxes, that makes it worth of more than a few listening... reminded me of Raksha Mancham, if you remember them, not only for the sound sources used, but also for a similar compositional taste. An important release, anyway, in which several timelines threads are bound together and presented as a platform from which the future could easily depart. High quality colour prints on solid cardboard, sort of how a digipack would look less the plastic.

In "Litam" viene fatto ampio uso di strumenti etnici raggranellati ai quattro angoli del pianeta: il risultato mantiene indubbiamente la vibrante briosità di colori delle musiche etniche, trasfigurata però dai trattamenti e dall'utilizzo di elettroniche in una sorta di minimalismo memore di certe operazioni portate a termine dai portoghesi "Osso Exotico".
